Where better to study painting on location than in the home of some of Britain's best loved plein air painters? West Cornwall offers a unique quality of light and stunning coastline that has attracted artists for two centuries. The fishing villages remain as characterful as ever, and the beaches are still as idyllic as they were when the Newlyn School was founded, almost 140 years ago. This is one of my favourite places to paint, and I can’t wait to share its treasures with a group of up to 10 people.

West Cornwall's wild coastline, golden beaches and historic fishing villages will be the location for our 5 days of painting on location. Join us in early summer as this much loved landscape bursts with wildflowers. We will centre our week around Penzance, using the wonderful Penlee Gallery as our base.

With so many local beauty spots steeped in rich creative history, we will be spoiled for choice!

Course Activities

We will begin with workshops and demonstrations of the specific techniques and approaches used when painting on location. Each day will focus on a different location and aspect of painting ‘en plein air’. We will study composition choices, the use of colour, brushwork and how to create focal areas in our work.

In case of poor weather we will have use of the classrooms at the Penlee Gallery in Penzance.
